Fernando Estenssoro

Fernando Estenssoro, Universidad de Santiago de Chile

Fernando Estenssoro Saavedra is the Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies (IDEA) of the University of Santiago de Chile (USACH).

He has a PhD in American Studies from the University of Santiago de Chile (2006), a Magister in Political Science from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (1998), a BA in History from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (1992), and degree in geography from the University of Chile (1979).

He has specialized in political thought, modern and contemporary times, and contingent issues of world politics. In recent years, he has deepened the political and geopolitical dimension of the environmental debate.

His main bodies of work include a History of the Environmental Debate in the World-wide Politics 1945-1992: The Latin American perspective, published in Brazil and Chile(2014), and Environment and Ideology: The public discussion in Chile, 1992-2002. Antecedents for a history of the political ideas at the beginning of the 21st century (2009).
