Gustavo Ramírez Buchheister, University of Magallanes

Gustavo Ramírez Buchheister teaches Legal History and International Law at the University of Magallanes (UMAG) in Punta Arenas (Chile), only 1300 Km away from Antarctica. He received his Law Degree from Universidad de los Andes (Santiago de Chile) and is currently a Master of Education candidate at UMAG; his thesis explores the presence of Antarctica in school curricula. From the point of view of International Law, he is interested in the limitation and exercise of sovereignty under Article IV of the Antarctic Treaty, as well as in environmental protection and Antarctic geopolitics.
